Thames Valley Cup

The B52's travelled to their local rivals in Basingstoke for the first
game in this years Thames Valley Cup. Having beaten the Hyenas for the
first time in a while last time out, everyone knew that the Basingstoke team
would be looking for revenge.

The Hyenas came out quickly at the start of the game, with Munson forced to make several
early saves in his first start (for the B52's) of the season. For once though it was the B52's who
were outworking their opponents and were rewarded when Hastings scored a power play goal at 7:37.
The game flowed nicely from end to end, with both teams creating chances but it was Shambrook who
would put the B52's up 2-0 at 16:32, quickly followed by Downs at 18:58, to close out the period 3-0.

The Hyenas were probably feeling somewhat shocked to find themselves three goals down in a tight game and the
second period began to get increasingly chippy as the home team tried to assert themselves, but it was the B52's that
would extend their lead when Hastings got his second at 24:17. There was then a bit of a brawl, which resulted in the
Hyenas getting a 10 minute power play. Inevitably they began to create chances as the short handed B52's tired and Murray
scored from in close at 33:09, although in truth Munson was disappointed to concede in the manner that he did. But the B52's
are made of stern stuff and Roger Sheppard scored his first of the season, a short handed marker just over a minute later. Landin made it 5-2 at 38:40, still on the power play, going high glove to round out the scoring in the second.

Into the third and with the Hyenas still on the power play in the early minutes it was a mistake by Hastings, coughing up the puck at the blue line, which allowed Bone to net on the breakaway at 42:09 and get back within two. Hastings was to make
up for his error at 46:34, getting a short handed marker and put the B52's up 6-3. The rest of the game was physical and
the Hyenas rained down 23 shots on Munson in the B52's net, but a tremendous team effort saw the B52's end up
deserving winners. B52's Man of the Match - #91 Paul Munson
