Fresh from a big win at Basingstoke the previous
Saturday, the B52's were in confident mood despite being
handly beaten the last time they faced the Satans. With Silver
soaking up the rain in the Caribbean, Munson got his second straight
start in net.
The first period proved to be a tight affair, both teams moving the puck well, but tight
checking and diligent defensive play saw few chances created in the first ten minutes. It
was the B52's that would eventually score first. Andy Korpela, in his first game for a few years,
roofing a rebound from in close at 10:15. The Satans picked up the pace and began to apply some
pressure, eventually being rewarded at 15:52 when Christies shot from the slot flicked off of Munsons
glove and crept just inside the post. The period finished 1-1, just reward for both teams high level of play.
Into the second and the Satans stepped it up, keeping the puck in the B52's zone for good periods only to be
denied by Munson in net and hard work by all the defenders. Having soaked up the pressure, the B52's then flooded
forward themselves and were rewarded with three goals in just over three minutes. Downs at 25:31, Korpela at 26:24 and
Nicholson at 28:42 left Tate in the Satans net apparently feeling some frustration as Bracknell suddenly had a 4-1 lead. It
got worse for the Satans as Sheppard added a fifth at 31:12, even as Slough continued to push forward. And push they did,
Munson making a string of decent saves, a few goal mouth scrambles and a bunch of blocked shots denying Slough. Finally
at 36:02 they got a break, Christie tipping a shot from the blue line through the five hole to bring the score back to 5-2.
Bracknell seemed to get a bit defensive in the third, allowing the Satans plenty of posession and shots, fortunately Munson was equal to the task. But then at 53:55 a defensive mistake by Porter and Revans allowed Villenueve to skate in alone and bring the score back to 5-3. The Satans saw their chance and piled on the pressure, but were again denied until 59:20 when the puck broke to the right of the goal from a scramble and Webb somehow found the net past a diving Munson and another player
on the line. The B52's survived the nervy final seconds to win 5-4 in a well played, fast paced and entertaining game.
