Having had a tough loss against the MK Jesters the
previous night, the B52's travelled down the M4 to Cardiff to take
on the Titans for the first time.

The good news was that the game even went ahead. Paul Munson, the only
available B52 netminder, recovering from a sore back enough to play. The bad news
was that after a few minutes it was clear that it was going to be a very long night! The
Titans were well organised and probably a couple of steps ahead from the off. However there's
no point in travelling all that way and not put in an effort, so the B52's set about the task. The
opening goal came at 4:18, Malfatti on a breakaway netting even though Munson got his arm on the
shot. The Titans carried much of the next passage of play, but it was Tony Nicholson who scored next to
bring the B52's level. Perhaps that was just what the Titans needed as they came marauding back and went
up 2-1 within 28 seconds, then 3-1 59 seconds after that!

Into the second period and the Titans came out flying, after just 18 seconds Griffiths ripped a shot in off the cross bar and
that was followed by four more goals in the next 8 minutes. With the Titans dominating and controlling the puck, the B52's
defenders were collapsing right onto the goal crease, giving Cardiff too much time and giving their own goalie a tough time in
trying to get a clear view of the puck. Although Munson did see quite a lot of the puck between 34:37 and 39:23 as he fished it
out of the net another five times, the period ending 13-1.

The B52's rallied themselves for a big effort in the third, but it was business as usual for the Titans, adding four more goals by the 47:21 mark. However, the B52's would only allow one more goal at 53:16, as the effort finally had some (measily!) reward. Battling for every puck throughout the team and Munson making some decent saves. At 56:11 Tony Nix, got his second goal
of the night to round off a 'man of the match' performance by him and leave the score at 18-2. If only we'd played to the 'last
goal wins' rules!
