Guildford Smoke 0
Bracknell B52's 4
After a disappointing team performance at home the previous
night, Bracknell B52s took the short journey to Guildford for the
return game against the Smoke. With eight different players in the squad
for this game the B52s were hoping to put in a full 60 min of good hockey. The
team looking far more focused in the dressing room and up for this game. A quick
start saw the B52s with a refreshed team attitude on the bench and a clear urgency
about the game. The 3 lines all playing well and looking confident on the puck. Guildford not
quite as comfortable controlling the puck and with more intensity from the B52s, to apply pressure,
the Smoke began throwing out loose pucks which allowed Bracknell to get some good shots on net.
The game gaining momentum saw the Smoke working hard and passing well to create chances, but the first
goal was to go to Shambrook (assisted by Barringer) where, at centre ice, he had a breakaway opportunity and
neatly found the back of the Guildford net to score the only goal of the 1st period 1-0. A closely fought 1st period left
Bracknell enjoying their team efforts.
The 2nd period was tough going
. Again both teams really battling now and a good game of hockey was on the cards with a
lot of forechecking from both teams. Bracknell with a new 3rd line of players up front, Rob Anderson, Tom revans & Dave Nutt
were all working hard every shift and put in a great effort. The 2nd period saw the Bracknell B52s play some smooth passing hockey
to find Barringer, Shambrook & Nicholson all working the puck well to complete 4 clinical passes to each other, with a swift return pass
to find Nicholson at the back post to tip in a well played puck (2-0). With another goal to follow from Pete Litwin who along with Steve
Brown & Dave Welham skated hard all game, to find Litwin on the end of the puck to wrist shot nicely at close range assisted from Brown
(3-0). The 3rd goal of the 2nd period coming from the determined Steve Brown who again showed his ability to carry the puck under pressure
and find the back of the Guildford net (assisted by captain Mark Gibson). A really good period of hockey for Bracknell who looked like another team
to their performance of 24hrs ealier. The Period ending 4 0 to the Bracknell B52s.
The B52s still not letting up into the 3rd period and still showing a determined Guildford smoke the respect they deserve as they continued to drive hard
on the Bracknell goal but with Robbie (silver) Birch playing a solid game between the pipes was not giving up any loose pucks. An entertaining game with penalties being 50/50 and no 3 player penalties to worry about. Again Mark Gibson and Neil Porter were playing controlled hockey in their own end and breaking the puck out well. At last Bracknell were now back in the groove and it looked like the poor performance of yesterdays game had now been forgotton as the B52s kept skating hard into the final minutes of the game. Mitch Stead & Nigel O'Keefe, Jason Draper & Allan Watson all putting in a
great display in defence supporting Robbie Birch in front of goal. With Guildford Smoke putting in a good team performance they were unfortunate
not to get on the scoreboard in this game and the 3rd period ended up scoreless as the buzzer went and the Bracknell B52s headed home with
a 4-0 win. The scoreline not reflecting the hard work of the Guildford Smoke but leaving Robbie (silver) Birch celebrating his 1st shut out of the
for the Bracknell B52s
