Peterborough Predators 3
Bracknell B52's 20
Hi Hockey fans,
Welcome to the 1st match report of the new 06/07 season for the B52's.
The 1st game was a road trip to Peterborough to play the Predators. (The 1st
encounter for both teams) with the B52's arriving at Planet Ice Peterborough with
2 lines.
The 1st period started with both teams skating hard to take control of the puck. The B52's
taking early control with some confident passing and positional play. Russ Harmen was first to find
the net at 3.51 with an assist for Neil Porter. The Predators were giving the Bracknell team the time to set
up and soon found the 2nd goal at 6.26 scored by Scott Cunningham assisted by Mark Gibson and Andy Downs.
The Predators not letting up the chase were rewarded with a goal at 6.47 (Novak) to bring the game back to 2 – 1.
The B52's were starting to grow more confident and were moving the puck around well not allowing the predators to break
out easily. The pressure again showed with Downs and Pete Litwin finding the net. Score 4 - 1. Again the determined Predators
took advantage of a quick breakout to get another goal past Paul Munson to bring them back to 4 - 2. (Bennett) The 1st period ending
7 - 2 with more goals, Barringer (1) Nicholson (2)
The 2nd period was more bad new for the Predators, with 4 more goals in 5 minutes, scored by Andy Collins, Gibson, Downs, and Barringer
(11- 2). The Predators, determined to the last, were still taking their chances and getting shots on Munson and managed to find the net at 26.32
(Halifax) to pull back another goal. Score 11 - 3. This was the beginning of the end for the Predators who showed desire, and commitment
throughout this encounter but were not able to contain the Bracknell B52's. The 2nd period finished with a great natural hat-trick from Scott
Cunningham (14 - 3)
The 3rd period was tough for the Predators with Bracknell finding time to set up plays and move the puck with ease to extend the lead by another 6 goals, Barringer (1) Harmen (1) Downs (1) Nicholson (2) Litwin (1) Final score 20 - 3. The score didn't do justice to what was a very enjoyable and well disciplined effort from both teams (only 2 penalties being served the whole game by the Predators).
The Predators were committed and battled on the whole game, determined to improve the score. I am sure they will be hungry for revenge on their return game at Bracknell
