Bracknell B52's 10
Slough Scorpions 1

  Venue: Bracknell
  Date : 26th September 2008

Hi Hockey Fans,

The Bracknell B52s welcomed the Slough Scorpions to the Hive for a challenge game,
the Scorpions only being formed in the last year or so.The B52s icing 3 lines for this clash and
the Scorpions a few players short. Again Tony Lack in the black and white stripes refing this one.
With the formalities completed the puck is dropped centre ice and both teams now keen to make their
mark on the game. The Bracknell B52s settled into some confident passing taking advantage of the time and
working the open ice well. The B52s getting on the scoreboard at 3:59 when Litwin & Barringer worked the puck
well in the offensive zone to set up Nicholson for a wristshot at close range. This settled the nerves for the team and
lots of open passing and give and go hockey left the Scorpions struggling to compete.
But the Scorpions showing determination and commitment were not willing to drop their heads and with hard work chasing for
all loose pucks soon began to get shots off on Silver(B52s n/m). The B52s having to now work harder to create chances.
The Slough netminder Loveday doing a great job between the pipes making countless saves was keeping the score to just the single
goal. The efforts of the Scorpions was rewarded with a well taken shot from Brown at 14:58 to level the score (assisted by Downing
& Freemantle). This was to lift the Scorpions morale all the more and build their confidence as the B52s struggled to control the game with their
earlier smooth passing now becoming rushed and incomplete. With the B52s needing to get focused on their jobs the passing slowly started to
connect once again and with some good hussling in the corner from Litwin, the puck was to come free and Nicholson who was still spreadeagled
on the ice, reached out to the loose puck and swept the stick to make a pass to team captain Mark (gibo) Gibson who fired off a shot through the mass
of players in the slot and found the back of the net to take a 2 goal to 1 advantage at 19:06. A closely fought 1st period ending with a slender lead to the Bracknell B52s.
Gibo quick to round up the players and get them fired up for the next period. The 2nd period started well with a goal at 22:35 from Nicholson, again a well worked team effort from Barringer & Litwin was to set Nicholson up for another close range goal.Score now 3 – 1. With all the hard work the Scorpions had put into the 1st period they soon struggled to contain the workrate of the B52s who were now again working well as a team with some good give and go hockey from Downs,Harman & Stanford up front and with Gibo & Edmunds in control of the offensive blueline, soon the Scorpions were on the rails with 3 more goals coming from the B52s without reply.
Chris Graham receiving the puck from the faceoff, fired a well placed wrist shot past Loveday timed at 26:56, assisted by Nicholson. Andy Downs
soon put his mark on the game at 29:29 with a calmly taken goal after some good teamwork passing from Harman & Litwin who both assisted
on the goal. Then again at 39:24 Downsey was to set up Mark Stanford in front of goal and period finished out with a 6 -1 lead to the
Bracknell B52s.
